Issue Details

How do I access and use the Interface to the Win32 Application Programming Interface (API) from LabWindows/CVI?

Solution

Refer to the attached Microsoft Word document for more information on using the Windows SDK in LabWindows/CVI.

You can also see an example of how to use the Windows SDK in LabWindows/CVI in the <CVI>\Samples\sdk folder (where <CVI> is the installation directory of CVI).

Additional Information

The Interface to the Win32 API is a collection of import libraries, header files, help files, code samples, and utility programs for Win32 operating system development.

The Platform SDK (Software Development Kit) that is shipped with LabWindows/CVI 8.5.1 and previous is the version of the SDK that Microsoft shipped with Windows 2000. Functions introduced in the Windows XP SDK and later are not included in the LabWindows/CVI 8.5.1 and previous SDK.

The Windows Server 2003 R2 Platform SDK is shipped with LabWindows/CVI version 9.0 and later. This version of  platform SDK was released in March 2006 and does not include tools or functionality added in later versions of the SDK, such as support for functionality specific to Windows Vista.

To determine when a function was introduced, refer to the Windows API Reference - Functions by Release guide. These newer functions can be accessed in LabWindows/CVI through using the LoadLibrary() and GetProcAddress() functions.
