Issue Details

  • Why does my Ready and/or Active LED not light up when I plug in my GPIB-USB-B?
  • When I plug in my GPIB-USB device, I see the device listed in NI MAX, but a yellow warning indicator is shown and it states: Windows does not have a driver associated with your device.

Solution

You will need to install a version of the driver NI-488.2 which supports your GPIB-USB device. There are some considerations for choosing the correct driver:
  1. Make sure that your NI-488.2 driver is compatible with your operating system. Find compiled information on the page titled "NI-488.2 Driver Versions for Microsoft Windows, MacOS and Linux" or in the readme files coming with every version of the driver.
  2. In case you are using LabVIEW to interface with your device, ensure that the driver version is also compatible with your version of LabVIEW: NI-488.2 and LabVIEW Version Compatibility
  3. To ensure that your driver supports your hardware, check your driver version's Readme for a list of supported devices. The Readme of a driver can be found on the download page of the driver, the device list is located in each Readme's "Supported Hardware" section. A table containing device support information of the main driver versions can be found here: NI-488.2 Supported Versions for GPIB Devices and Modules

If the correct drivers are already installed, and the warning described in the Issue Details section above shows nonetheless, it may be that the driver installation was incomplete or corrupted. You can resolve this by performing a repair, or force re-installation of the software

In case you require a 488.2 driver version prior to 17.6 for Windows, you will need to reach out NI Support to request the specific driver version. It will be helpful to have your GPIB device's serial number available.
