Solution
The icons to the left of the product name indicate the activation status of any particular software item. Their appearance is typically a combination of the following:
- The different circle/square types have these meanings:
- Full circle/square – Fully featured license
- Half-filled circle/square – Evaluation license
- Empty circle/square (White color) – Unlicensed
- The different circle/square colors stand for:
- Green color – Non-expiring license
- Yellow color – Fully featured expiring license. This can also refer to a disconnected license .
- Red color – Expired license
- Faded – Will prompt to activate on next launch of the activation wizard
- There are two special icons:
- Red Exclamation Mark – Corrupted license or requires reactivation
- Yellow Question Mark – Activated on another computer ID
With NI License Manager 4.0 the icon appearance was reworked.

In this License Manager 3.7 screenshot, the icons have the following meanings:
- LabWindows™/CVI Full Development System 2013 is an evaluation license that has expired meaning that the software is still installed but disabled until a new license is applied to it.
- DIAdem Advanced Edition 2015 is activated or otherwise fully featured, with an expiring license. This can also refer to a disconnected license.
- DIAdem Professional Edition 2015 is activated or otherwise fully featured, non-expiring license upon the next launch of DIAdem.
- LabVIEW 2015, and Signal Express 2015 are activated or otherwise fully featured, non-expiring licenses.
- LabVIEW Professional Development System 2016 is an expiring evaluation license.
- TestStand Development System 2016 is a corrupted license.
- The LabVIEW Base Development system as well as many others are unlicensed products or products being served from a network license server. Launching it will prompt the user to activate the software, resulting in one of the described color status indicators.
