Why Can I Not Repair my Windows Installer using the Included File on the Software DVD?

Issue Details

I am trying to use the solution in Knowledge Base article Why Do I Get Error 1601 (or 16xx) While Installing NI Software on Windows?  on Windows XP Service Pack 3, or greater, and I am receiving the following error message: 



Why does this happen and how can I overcome the issue?

Solution

This is a Microsoft Windows error. The problem is solved by navigating your web browser to the Microsoft Download Center and downloading the file Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable, or later, and installing it on your computer. This will install without the above error message and allow you to continue installing your NI Software.

Additional Information

In some cases, Windows Update, Windows XP Service Pack 3, and later versions of the Windows Operating System install Windows Installer 4.5 onto your computer. The Windows Operating System will not allow you to repair a newer version of the Windows Installer on the OS using the older version of the program found on the NI software media.
