How to Add a High Speed Serial Instrument to My Real Time System Project

Issue Details

I have a 659xR High Speed Serial Instrument, such as a PXIe-6591R or PXIe-6592R. When I create a new LabVIEW project on my development computer and add my Real Time target without the High Speed Serial Instrument present in the chassis, the device is not listed under Targets & Devices. Is my device supported by LabVIEW RT?


NI High Speed Serial Instruments are supported by Real Time systems, but the experience for programming these instruments in LabVIEW is different from other Real Time compatible targets. While you will not be able to add your instrument under a Real Time target, you can work with it as a target under My Computer in your LabVIEW project. Once your FPGA code is complete, you can compile it to a bitfile and then use the Open FPGA VI Reference Function  in your Real Time VI(s) to call and open the bitfile for your High Speed Serial Instrument. 

Additional Information

Ensure that you have NI High Speed Serial Board Driver installed on your Real Time system for this solution to work. This driver is installed on the host computer with the Instrument Design Libraries for High Speed Serial Instruments .
