Recovering NI-DAQmx After System Corruption or Reformat

Issue Details

  • I had a working system until a power failure corrupted my software or operating system.  I've reinstalled my operating system and software, but the NI-DAQmx functions are missing or I experience other errors and issues.
  • I reformatted my computer or controller, and reinstalled Windows. Now my DAQ devices or modules are missing in Windows Device Manager or NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).
  • I want to wipe my hard drive clean and start over with a fresh version of Windows.  How I can I recover my NI-DAQmx code?


In most cases, it will be best to follow our guide on Upgrading Windows or Moving to a New PC with Using NI-DAQmx and LabVIEW, even if you will be using the same version of your OS.  This explains how to verify the software and driver versions needed for your system, how to install software and drivers properly, and additional troubleshooting steps to perform after installation.  The most common causes of issues are: 
  • Failing to install or repair NI-DAQmx after the LabVIEW or other Application Development Environment (ADE) installation
  • Incompatibility between the OS, LabVIEW (or other ADE), NI-DAQmx, and the hardware devices or modules being used.  Often the latest version of NI-DAQmx is used on reinstall, which may no longer be compatible with older versions of your ADE.

Additional Information

In many cases of issues just with NI software, including corruption, NI recommends performing a force reinstall of your NI software as a last resort before reformatting or reimaging your system.  This is different than simply uninstalling and then installing again as it forces the installer to run completely fresh.
