DAQ Assistant Does Not Appear or Initialize in LabVIEW

Issue Details

  • I installed LabVIEW, but the DAQ Assistant Express VI does not appear in the Measurement I/O functions palette or in search results.
  • I installed NI-DAQmx and LabVIEW, but DAQ functions such as DAQ Assistant are unavailable in LabVIEW. However, I can create DAQ tasks in NI MAX.
  • I can locate the DAQ Assistant Express VI in LabVIEW, but it does not load or initialize correctly when placed on the block diagram.

Solution

The DAQ Assistant is installed with the NI-DAQmx driver and is not included with the LabVIEW installation.
 
If the DAQ Assistant cannot be located or does not initialize correctly, perform the following steps.
  1. Verify compatibility between the operating system, LabVIEW, and NI-DAQmx using NI Hardware and Software Operating System Compatibility.
  2. Upgrade NI-DAQmx to the newest version supported by the installed LabVIEW version.
  3. Repair NI-DAQmx using NI Package Manager by following Repair Software in NI Package Manager (NIPM).
  4. Reinstall NI-DAQmx by following Force Reinstall Non-Working or Corrupt NI Software.
  5. Verify that NI-DAQmx support for the installed LabVIEW version was selected during installation.
  6. Follow the troubleshooting steps in Missing Icons on Functions or Controls Palette in LabVIEW if the DAQ Assistant still cannot be located.

    Additional Information

    • Verify compatible software versions.
    • Upgrade or downgrade LabVIEW correctly.
    • Confirm that NI-DAQmx ADE support is installed.
    • Perform additional post-installation troubleshooting.

     

    If the DAQ Assistant Express VI can be placed on the block diagram but input and output terminals are missing, open the configuration dialog by double-clicking the VI and completing the required configuration.
