DAQ Assistant Missing or Not Showing Up in LabVIEW

Updated Sep 3, 2019

Reported In

Software

  • LabVIEW
  • Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX)

Driver

  • NI-DAQmx

Issue Details

  • I have already installed LabVIEW, and the DAQ Assistant Express VI is missing or not showing up in my Measurement I/O functions palette, or when I use search.
  • I just installed NI-DAQmx and LabVIEW, but DAQ functions, like DAQ Assistant, are not available in LabVIEW. However I can create a task in NI MAX. What's wrong with LabVIEW?

Solution

The DAQ Assistant is part of the NI-DAQmx DAQ hardware driver  and is not included with the LabVIEW download.

Follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
  • Ensure compatibility for your Operating System (OS), LabVIEW and NI-DAQmx versions by checking the following charts:
  • Ensure that the Installation Order for Multiple NI Software Products is followed. LabVIEW must be installed first and then NI-DAQmx must be done after.
    • If the installation was in the incorrect order, repairing or force reinstalling the DAQmx driver will fix the order.
  • Upgrade to the newest DAQmx driver the LabVIEW version can support
  • Repair or Force Reinstall DAQmx  This absolves any corrupt downloads.
  • Rerun the DAQmx installer (setup.exe or autorun.exe), select Custom Installation, and make sure you have installed DAQmx Support for LabVIEW.
    • If you left-click on the icon next to LabVIEW, you need to make sure that the Install this feature to a local drive option is selected.

Note: If you are still unable to locate the DAQ Assistant, follow the steps in the article Missing Icons on Functions or Control Palette
