Monitor VI Status From Distributed System Manager

Updated Jan 10, 2019

Issue Details

How do I monitor my real-time application's VI states in Distributed Systems Manager (DSM)?

There are two ways that a real-time application VI's state can be monitored, which are outlined below.

In Project Explorer
  1. Right click on the target and select Properties
  2. Select VI Server under Category.
  3. Enable TCP/IP under Protocols. The default port is 3363.
  4. Add the target IP address and * under Machine Access. A valid IP address is denoted by a green checkmark in the Machine access list.
  1. Click Ok to save your changes.
  2. Right click on My Computer and select Properties
  3. Repeat steps 2 and 3.
  4. Add the computer IP address under Machine Access.
  5. Click Ok to save your changes.
  6. Select Tools >> Options.
  7. Select VI Server under Category.
  8. Enable TCP/IP under Protocols. Both the computer and target IP address should be listed under the Machine access list.
  9. Click Ok.
  10. Right click on the target and select Deploy. If you target is already connected, disconnect and redeploy your application.
In Distributed Systems Manager
  1. Select the target under Network Items. If you do not see it, refresh DSM.
  2. Select the VI States tab on the right.
  3. Ensure the port number matches the default port value.
  4. Select Show Top Level VIs Only and click Start Monitoring. The VI Name and Status should appear and you can start and stop VIs from DSM.

Additional Information

If you run into issues implementing the above, try the following:
  • If the VI Name and Status are greyed out after Start Monitoring is selected, disconnect from the target and redeploy the application.
  • If the Start and Stop options are greyed out, stop monitoring and start it again.
