Can't Communicate With VISA Device In MAX After New LabVIEW Install

Issue Details

I was working with a trial version of LabVIEW and VISA, and upgraded to the Professional version of LabVIEW by uninstalling the trial and reinstalling the Professional software. I was able to communicate with my serial device previously using VISA, but cannot any more. It is seen in MAX, but the VISA test panel doesn't receive data back when I query using a known command. I am able to communicate with it using other software, however. What can I do to mitigate this?


  • Try force reinstalling your VISA drivers. Something may have been overwritten during the new install of LabVIEW. 
  • If you have not unplugged and replugged in your device since reinstalling your MAX drivers or installing LabVIEW, do so.

Additional Information

If you are working with a trial version of LabVIEW, and you would like to activate the same version, an uninstall and reinstall is unnecessary. Use the NI License Manager to activate your software using your serial number.
