Analog Output on DAQ Device Lowers When Connecting a Switch

Issue Details

I set up my USB-6002 to output an analog output at 5 V. I've verified that this is 5 V, but when I attach an electrical shutter the analog output is measured to be 1.3 V. Why is this happening, and what can I do?

Solution

The impedance of the switch is interacting with the internal circuitry of the DAQ device, driving your signal to an undesired value. A solution for this would be to use a Unity Gain Buffer. An Op Amp is placed into the circuit to decrease the source impedance.
