NILM License Manager is no longer a Service used by newer versions of LabVIEW/NI License Manager. 

I installed LabVIEW 6.1 and I noticed that the NI License Manager automatically loads when I start my computer. On Windows 9x, a lmgrd window appears briefly during startup. How do I stop the NI License Manager from loading when I start my computer?
 

Solution

Complete the following steps to stop the NI License Manager from automatically loading at startup.

Windows 2000/XP
  1. Log in as an administrator or as a user with administrative privileges.
  2. Select Start»Settings»Control Panel»Administrative Tools»Services.
  3. Right-click the NILM License manager item and select Properties from the shortcut menu.
  4. Change Startup type to Manual.
Windows Me/98
  1. Select Start»Run and enter msconfig.
  2. Click the OK button to launch the System Configuration Utility.
  3. On the Startup tab, locate the NILM License Manager item.
  4. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox next to the NILM License Manager item.
  5. Click the OK button to close the utility and save your changes.
Windows NT
  1. Log in as an administrator or as a user with administrative privileges.
  2. Select Start»Settings»Control Panel»Services.
  3. Select the NILM License Manager from the list of Services and press the Startup button.
  4. Change the Startup Type to Manual and click OK.
  5. Click Close on the Services window to save the changes.
Windows 95
  1. Select Start»Run and enter regedit.
  2. Click the OK button to launch the Registry Editor.
  3. Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run Services key and delete the NILM License Manager value.

Additional Information

Caution: Always back up your system registry before making any changes. Select Registry»Export Registry to make a backup.

If you stop the NI License Manager from launching at startup, the remote front panel feature in LabVIEW 6.1 can only allow one simultaneous HTTP connection. To enable it manually, select Start»Programs»National Instruments»NI License Manager. In the License Manager, select Options»Start License Server to activate the default, single remote front panel license included with LabVIEW 6.1.
