How Many Encoders Can I Use with the NI-9361 Module?

Issue Details

I have 6 encoders and would like to use the NI-9361 to measure their position.  How many encoders can I connect to one module?

Solution

The NI-9361 has 8 counters available to use for encoder measurements, but is limited by the number of digital lines available; the module has 8 digital lines.  The type of measurement you are taking of the encoder will determine the number of encoders you can connect to one module.

For a position measurement, you would need 3 digital lines per encoder (A,B, and Z). This means you could connect 2 encoders to one module.

For a velocity measurement, you would need 2 digital lines per encoder (A and B). This means you could connect 4 encoders to one module.
