Issue Details

I would like to use the NI 9227 module to read AC currents, but the 5 Arms range is too small for my application. I would like to use a transformer to bring the current measured by the module to within the aforementioned 5 Arms. Does the NI 9227 have a maximum VA rating that it can tolerate from a transformer?

Solution

The NI 9227’s current measurement method is immune to the effects of apparent power in alternating current applications. So the VA rating is not important for any transformer being considered to condition the current measured by the NI 9227. Ensuring that the current being measured does not exceed the 5 Arms continuous and 10 Arms pulse specifications is the only factor important in choosing a transformer.
