This article explains how to request license permissions through NI License Manager (NILM) in order to activate software using a license server. Please note that the steps outlined below apply to NI License Manager version 20.7 and later.

The screenshots included in this article are provided as examples and are not specific to any particular NI software product.

How to Request access to a connected (online) license

  1. Software Administrators create licensing groups that allow end users to access and obtain server licenses for software activation. If there are no license groups available for you to join, you may contact your Software Administrator to request an individual license permission.
  2. Start by launching the NI License Manager tool in your computer and select Network Licenses >> Manage.

       3. Select the appropriate group (if you have a group) with the license you would like to request. In the case below, we will check the box next to TestStand. You will need to fill out the required information to send the request. The software administrator can customize which options are required.

  1. The request will be automatically sent to the server to be added to the group. If permissions are set to automatic by your Software Administrator, NI License Manager will display the updated group list in the Manage section under Network Licenses. If permissions are set to manual, the Software Administrator must approve the request on the Volume License Server. For additional information on managing these permissions, please refer to the following page: Handling Permission Requests
