How do I scale FieldPoint channels in the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) and in my Project Explorer?

With NI-FieldPoint 5.0 and later, you can set custom scales on per-I/O channel basis. In Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), select Data Neighborhood » FieldPoint Items » FP @ xx_xx_xx_xx » cFP-xx-xxx » Channel 0 as seen below.

Then in the bottom center select the Scales tab, and be sure to check the Enable Scaling box.

If you want to add a custom scale for an embedded VI that you will download on a FieldPoint controller, you will have to Enable Scaling on the I/O point in the Project Explorer, under the FieldPoint Target.  To do this, right-click on the I/O point and select Properties.

In the Channel X Properties window that pops up, select the Custom Scaling tab, and then click on the Enable Scaling check box.

Carefully consider the relationship of the FieldPoint configuration IAK file, MAX, and a project.  Both MAX and a project have their own independent IAK file, and KnowledgeBase 4ALELKMY reviews this in more detail.

Previous versions of the NI-FieldPoint driver do not allow you to scale the inputs or outputs of your FieldPoint modules. On the other hand, you can still select the voltage and current ranges, or sensor type when configuring your analog modules in MAX with older versions of FieldPoint.

 

Additional Information

Note: FieldPoint Drivers 5.0 require VI Manager 4.0 or higher that is only supported from LabVIEW 8.0, so previous versions of LabVIEW do not support custom scaling for embedded applications.
