Multiple Parallel VBAI Inspections

Updated Mar 13, 2025

Reported In

Software

  • Vision Builder for Automated Inspection

Operating System

  • Windows
  • NI Linux Real-Time

Issue Details

  • Can I run Vision Builder for Automated Inspection (VBAI) inspections in parallel in Windows? If so, how many?
  • Can I run VBAI inspections in parallel in Real-Time? If so, how many?

Solution

You can run multiple VBAI inspections in parallel in Windows and the limit will be defined by the target memory CPU. Each time you open a new instance to VBAI, it opens a different engine. To open multiple instances of VBAI you need to search for each VBAI file and double click over them. If you are calling them through the VBAI API in LabVIEW, you need to launch as many VBAI Local Engines as required ensuring you are utilizing different names for both the Local Engines and the inspections as shown in the image below.

On the other hand, on Real-Time controllers you can only run one VBAI inspection at a time.

Additional Information

You can either have the full VBAI license or run time license. It's recommended to not use the same hardware resource (same camera) to do this because it will cause a race condition.
