Issue Details

I am designing a custom cable for my NI high speed digital application, and I am wondering what the maximum cable length is for these devices. How long can I make the cable before I run into issues with signal integrity?


Most of our high speed digital modules are tested using 1 meter (m) cables. Because of this, we cannot guarantee that your device will perform within specifications at any length longer than 1 m.

Depending on your application, you may be able to make a custom cable that performs sufficiently for your needs, but you will need to do your own testing to make sure that the signal being transmitted through the cable is viable.

If you are using one of our high speed digital modules to read signal from a UUT, or DUT, you may need to implement external circuitry to boost the drive strength of this device to get the signal to propagate well over longer distances.
