Issue Details

Can I have multiple versions of LabWindows/CVI installed on the same computer?
Also, do I need all the Run-Time Engine versions for the installed LabWindows/CVI versions?

Solution

Yes, you can install multiple versions of LabWindows/CVI on your system. It is recommended that the order of installation goes from oldest to newest. It is important to note that even though you have multiple versions of the development environment installed, there is only one version of the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time Engine installed. The LabWindows/CVI Run-Time Engine is backwards compatible and may be used with applications that were created with previous versions of LabWindows/CVI.

For example if you have LabWindows/CVI 6.0, 7.1 and 8.0 installed on your machine, you will have the version 8.0 of the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time Engine version. Thus, all your applications on that machine will target that run-time engine. When you build an application using a specific version of the LabWindows/CVI environment, that application does not require a specific version of the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time Engine. The only requirement is that when it runs, that it can find a version of the LabWindows/CVI Run-Time Engine whose version is equal or higher than the version of LabWindows/CVI which built the application.
