Issue Details

After upgrading NI software on my machine, my NI devices now show up in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) with NI-VISA resource names instead of normal NI MAX aliases.  The original entry is still shown as not present in the system.

What could be causing this issue?

Solution

There are multiple conditions that could cause this behaviour:
  • The computer has not been restarted after the installation of the hardware driver. With that, make sure the computer has been rebooted after the installation.
  • Third-party drivers are set as prioritized over NI drivers. This can be checked in Windows Device Manager.
  • The NI Device Loader Windows Service (nidevldu) and/or NI Configuration Manager Service is not running. With that, please start these services. If the NI Device Loader still does not start automatically after restarting the computer,  try to uninstall all antivirus software in your computer and restart again.
  • Driver became corrupt. To fix this, try to repair, reinstall or force reinstalling the driver.
  •  Firmware update is required. During a driver installation, firmware updates download with the driver for many NI devices. For guidance to upgrade the firmware on the embedded device:
  • If a USB device is being used, this problem can be fixed by unplugging and re-plugging the device.
  • MAX Configuration Database became corrupt. To fix this, reset the database, restart the computer and devices and try again.
