Issue Details

How do I develop a VISA or GPIB application in the .NET language (C# or VB .NET)?

Solution

National Instruments provides a tightly connected .NET interface for NI-488.2 and NI-VISA to support C# and VB .NET. This driver software also includes documentation and examples of using VISA and GPIB in C#, VB .NET. Please confirm this option in the driver installation option tree to support this feature. You can see the option structure diagrams in the VISA and GPIB driver installers on the screenshots of the VISA and GPIB driver installers below. The installer will also add 488.2 and VISA's .NET class library documentation to MSDN. Like you get the help of the .NET framework class library, you can also browse the documentation for the NI-488.2 and NI-VISA .NET APIs through the Help menu in Visual Studio .NET.
  • If you want to use the GPIB API in a VB .NET or C# project, you can select National Instruments 488.2 in the Add References in the Solution Explorer.
  • If you want to use the VISA API in a VB .NET or C# project, you can select VisaNS in the Add References in the Solution Explorer.
The default installation directory for the routine is:
  • C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MeasurementStudioVS2003\DotNET\Examples\GPIB
  • C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MeasurementStudioVS2003\DotNET\Examples\VISA
