Backup File Was Created From Another Installation of NI VLM Error

Issue Details

I am trying to import my old VLM configuration settings onto a new server but I keep getting the error below:

The backup file was created from another installation of NI VLM. You cannot restore from this backup file. If you are moving NI VLM to a new server, refer to the Moving to Another Server topic in NI VLM help.
 

Solution

If you are moving onto a new server and want to import your last server's configuration settings you will need to go through the NI VLM Getting Started Wizard to import your settings.

To launch the Getting Started Wizard you will need to reset NI VLM by going to C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\Volume License Manager and deleting the following files:
  • nilm.opt
  • nivlm.dat
  • nivlm.lic



After deleting these files, if you close and reopen NI VLM, the Getting Started Wizard should launch, allowing you to set up this new server and import your configuration settings.
