Issue Details

I have an IC-3173 controller that serves as an acquisition system for my sensors. They communicate via an Ethernet port and are Power over Ethernet (PoE) compatible. The controller therefore automatically activates the PoE, whether the sensors are already powered or not, and I have the impression that the PoE always delivers the 15.4W indicated in the spec of the controller.

My sensors require a power <2.9W, so they heat quickly as soon as they are powered by PoE. I would like to know if the power delivered by the controller is adjustable, and is it possible to disable the PoE?

Solution

No, you can not disable the PoE or change the value of power delivered.
If a PoE-capable device is plugged into an Ethernet port with PoE, the IC-317x automatically supplies power to the device. When the IC-317x supplies PoE, the LED that corresponds to the port illuminates. When you unplug a PoE device, PoE is automatically disabled. You can use non-PoE Ethernet devices with PoE-enabled Gigabit Ethernet ports.
