Issue Details

I am looking at the PXI 4110 as a power source for which I need to test my unit at both negative and positive voltages ranging from -10 Volts to 10 Volts. I'd like to disconnect one output or the other to do each test. Can this device handle switching from -10 to 10 V? In other words, can I make this floating without it trying to drive to zero?

Solution

Out of the box, the PXI-4110 will require additional configuration and hardware to make this happen. In short, the output source can be disconnected through relays on some of the DCPower devices, such as the multiquadrant SMUs (ex. NI 4138), but not all of them, as per the Help documentation Disconnecting the Output. The PXI-4110 uses one quadrant to source.

With that, you may have a few options to work with, a) use the 4110 with an external relay or b) multiquadrant SMU such as the 4138 to switch between positive and negative voltages without physically rewiring.
