Issue Details

  • How do I set the alias for the FPGA in MAX?
  • Can I modify the RIO Resource Name in MAX?

Solution

In the Measurement & Austomation Explorer (MAX), under the General tab of the FPGA of a CompactRIO, there are 2 instances of the RIO Alias, one for your system and for your host device. The alias on the host device is what is used for LabVIEW and other coding protocols.

In the example below, the CompactRIO Host Name was changed to "Controls-9068" which will serve as the 'device' for RIO Alias on <device>

To change the RIO Alias on <device> follow the steps below:
  1. In NI MAX, go to the FPGA and at the bottom of the page go to the Settings tab in NI MAX
  1. Change the Name to the Alias you want and click Save at the top left
  1. This change will be reflected on the General tab for the RIO Alias on <device>

Additional Information

If the alias name is the same as the RIO Resource Name on the Settings tab used, then the RIO Alias on <device> will be blank.
The RIO Resource Name is a name for the device automatically assigned and may change at edit time as other devices are added to or removed from the system. This name cannot be changed because it could cause conflicts with the hardware.
