Issue Details

I am getting the following error when installing or uninstalling National Instruments software on Windows 2000. How can I fix this?

Error 1324. The folder path 'Program Files' contains an invalid character.

Solution

This is most likely caused by an incorrect registry entry. Perform the following steps to fix this error.

  1. Click Start » Run and type regedit. This should open up the registry editor.
  2. Export your current registry by selecting Registry » Export Registry File. Save it to a directory that you can remember.
  3. Look at the paths below. If these paths do not exist on your machine, move on to step 5: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folder HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
  4. If the above paths exist, verify that for both the Data values  for My Pictures are  %userprofile%\My Documents\My Pictures. If the Data value is not this value, change it.
  5. Look at the paths below. If these paths do not exist on your machine, move to step 7: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
  6. If the above paths exist. verify that for both the Data values for My Pictures are C:\Documents and Settings\*username\My Documents\My Pictures (*username is the Windows 2000 username you sign in with).
  7. If you have changed any of the Data values because they did not match the values listed here, you should now be able to install or uninstall the software without any errors.
