Issue Details

I am building a LabVIEW installer for my application that uses NI-VISA to communicate with third party instruments. When I include recommended additional installers and build my installer, I get a Select Source dialog box looking for NI-Serial and NI-488.2 installer locations. Do I need to download and include these driver installers following the instructions on the Select Source dialog box that are listed here?

Solution

If you are using all third-party instruments and cables and communicating with NI-VISA you do not need to include the NI-Serial and NI-488.2 Runtime installers. If you are using National Instruments GPIB or Serial hardware or cables, see the additional information section. LabVIEW may automatically select the NI-488.2 and NI-Serial installers when including NI-VISA installers. Follow the instructions below to ensure these are not included in your custom installer:

  1. In the Additional Installers property for your installer, uncheck Automatically select recommended installers
  2. Uncheck NI-488.2 Runtime and NI-Serial Runtime in the list of installers. Leave the LabVIEW Runtime Engine and NI-VISA Runtime selected.

Additional Information

If you are using a National Instruments serial or GPIB cable/hardware, you will need the NI-Serial or NI-488.2 driver installer, respectively. Ensure you include these installers, and you can follow the instructions here to select a source for the installers.
