I want to power my NI hardware with a battery instead of a traditional power supply. Is this possible?

There are many possible ways to power NI hardware. If you decide to use a battery, it is important to make sure you choose a battery setup which meets the power requirements of your specific hardware.

Complete the following steps to determine if a particular battery setup will work for your NI hardware:
  1. Find the user guide or specifications document for your NI hardware
  2. Locate the section titled 'Power Requirements' and note the:
    1. 'Power supply voltage range' or 'input voltage range'
    2. 'Maximum power consumption' or 'maximum required input power'
  3. Determine/calculate the output voltage and maximum wattage of your battery

The following must be true for the battery to work with your NI hardware:
  • The battery's output voltage must be within the range specified by the 'power supply voltage range' of your device
  • The battery's maximum wattage must be greater than or equal to the device's 'maximum power consumption'.
