Issue Details

I purchased RMX-10050 or RMX-10051 Power Distribution Unit (PDU). On the User Guide, I read that Remote EPO (Emergency Power On) feature is supported.

How can I enable this feature? Is this software-programmable?
 

Solution

Standard remote control feature is implemented with a digital control board. The remote feature includes a standard remote connection and a toggle switch. 

The toggle switch has three positions as follows:

  • Local = Turn on the switched outlets in the PDU without requiring the remote connections. Note that if the remote Disable/Stop signal is used, it will override this setting and turn off the switched outlets in the PDU.
  • Off = Turn off the switched outlets in the PDU regardless of the remote connections
  • Remote = Allow the switched outlets in the PDU to be controlled by the remote connections

The Remote Control connection connector allows full remote control of the switched outlets on the PDU. Internal to the PDU, the three pins on this connector interface with the digital control board via TTL electronics (meaning the voltages are 5VDC or less). This interface allows the remote feature to be controlled with dry contacts. The pin-out for the Remote Control connector is as follows:
  • Pin1 = Enable/Run (input)
  • Pin2 = Disable/Stop (input)
  • Pin3 = Return/Common (common)
Shorting pin1 to pin3 will trigger the Enable/Run signal. This causes the digital control board to turn on the switched outlets of the PDU. This signal must be maintained to keep the switched outlets on. When the connection between pin1 and pin3 is opened, the switched outlets will turn off again.

Shorting pin2 to pin3 will trigger the Disable/Stop signal. This causes the digital control board to turn off the switched outlets of the PDU. This signal has priority over the Enable/Run signal. If the Disable/Stop signal is activated, the switched outlets will turn off, even if the Enable/Run signal is activated at the same time. However, when the Disable/Stop signal is removed, the PDU will again follow the status of the Enable/Run signal.
 

Additional Information

These models of Power Distribution Unit are not programmable via instrument drivers or API. The Remote EPO functions through a connector interface with a digital control board. This interface allows remote feature to be controlled with dry contacts only; the dry contacts could be provided by a Marway UCP product, or any other provided switch, relay contact or other dry-contact device.
