Issue Details

I am trying to install a fresh copy of Windows on my PXI-8105, PXIe-8105, PXI-8106, PXIe-8106 or PXIe-8103 controller but I get an error saying the hard drive is not recognized or a blue screen. How can I successfully install Windows on my controller?

To successfully install Windows on a PXI controller you must have the appropriate drivers for the hard drive and other peripherals the controller may use. Windows includes drivers for many hard drives and peripherals, but you may need to manually install the drivers if you see this error.

The drivers for your PXI-8105, PXIe-8105, PXI-8106, PXIe-8106 or PXIe-8103 hard drive are available to download on the following FTP site and from the drivers and updates page on (as in Related Links). Browse to the respective controller folder and the drivers for the hard drive and any peripheral devices can be found under the peripherals folder.
  1. Unzip the file called to a folder and copy them to a floppy disk or USB jump drive.
  2. Attach a USB floppy or USB jump drive to the PXI embedded controller and start the Windows installation.
  3. When the installation begins, press the F6 key during the initial text mode portion of setup to load additional drivers.
  4. Once you've pressed F6 to load from the external device, you should be given a list of drivers to load.
    • For a PXI-8105, PXIe-8105, PXI-8106, PXIe-8106 embedded controller select Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH7M) as the driver.
    • For a PXIe-8103 embedded controller select Intel(R) 82801FBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH6M) as the driver.
To download the appropriate drivers for other controllers visit index of /support/pxi/ and select your controller.

Additional Information

It has been reported that after the SATA disk is formatted by Windows it may not recognize your floppy disk drive and Windows may prompt you Insert the disk label: Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver Into drive A:. In the event you see this error try a different floppy disk drive.
