Issue Details

What is the maximum file size allowed on a LabVIEW Real-Time target?

Solution

The maximum file size allowed on a Real-Time target depends on the target's operating system and the file system of the storage device that the file is saved on.

Phar Lap
NI Real-Time targets running the Phar Lap operating system support individual files up to 4 GB on FAT32 storage devices.  On Reliance storage devices Phar Lap targets supported up to 2GB files in LabVIEW Real-Time 2012 and earlier, and up to 4GB file sizes as of LabVIEW Real-Time 2013.

VxWorks
Files created on NI Real-Time targets running the VxWorks operating system are limited to 2GB regardless of the underlying storage device's file system.

NI Linux Real-Time
NI Real-Time targets running the NI Linux Real-Time operating system use UBIFS for the built-in storage device and the maximum files size is only limited by the total size of the storage device.  External drives used with Linux Real-Time targets are limited by the underlying file system limitations.  For example 4GB on FAT32.
