Issue Details

I bought a new Basler camera from National Instruments. I would like to get started with the software installation. What software do I need to install to set up and use my Basler camera with LabVIEW?

Solution

National Instruments offers cameras manufactured by Basler Technologies. The following software is necessary to set up and use your Basler camera with LabVIEW and National Instruments Vision software:

  • NI LabVIEW Development System
  • NI Vision Development Module (NI VDM)
  • NI Vision Acquisition Software (NI VAS)
  • NI Vision Builder for Automated Inspection (NI VBAI) - Optional

Refer to How to Acquire from GigE Vision Cameras with Vision Acquisition Software tutorial to acquire first image from the camera, control the camera settings, and then setup triggering of the camera.

Note: Using incompatible versions may result in errors, missing LabVIEW palettes or functions, or devices and tasks failing to show up in NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). Refer to additional links to ensure you install the correct or compatible version when upgrading or updating your system or software.

Additional Information

The Vision Development Module, Vision Acquisition Software are offered for LabVIEW and LabWindows™/CVI.

If you only want to acquire images from your device and do not want to do additional LabVIEW development and analysis on the images, you do not need the Vision Development Module. See the flow chart on this page to determine what software you may need a license for.
