Issue Details

I have a GRAS microphone that needs excitation and I would like to connect it to my DAQ card for the first time, I need to know any considerations to be taken in order to do this.

Solution

If your card is able to provide the excitation current, which means it has IEPE conditioning, you just need to connect the microphone with the BNC cable and set the task for a sound pressure analog input. Once you have that task, you can select where the excitation current comes from, either an internal or an external source. In this case, it would be an internal source, since it comes form the card. After that, you can select the amount of current you would like to provide. Check the microphone's datasheet to see the current ranges and look for the recommended excitation current for that device so you can be sure it will work properly.
