How to Add or Retrieve a VBAI Inspection from an NI Smart Camera

Updated May 25, 2018

Issue Details

  • I have a NI Smart Camera with a VBAI (Vision Builder for Automated Inspection) inspection running on it. How can I retrieve the inspection?
  • I would like to copy the VBAI program currently on my Smart Camera to my PC to send / use elsewhere. What is the process for this?
  • I have developed a VBAI inspection on my development machine. How can I add this pre-built inspection to my NI Smart Camera?
  • How can I Add, Remove, or Copy an inspection on a remote target?

Solution

An inspection can be added to the NI Smart Camera by following these steps:
  1. Connect to your NI Smart Camera by selecting the appropriate target in the Execution Target drop down menu on the VBAI Welcome screen.
  2. Select Configure Inspection to launch the inspection configuration window.
  3. For VBAI 2011 and later: Open the Inspection Manager window (as seen below) by selecting Target»Add/Retrieve Inspections.
  4. For VBAI 2010 and earlier: Open the Inspection Manager window (as seen below) by selecting Tools»Add/Retrieve Inspections
  1. On the left hand side of the Inspection Manager window, navigate to the inspection you wish to add to the NI Smart Camera and select Copy.
  2. On the right hand side of the Inspection Manager window, navigate to the inspection you wish to remove from the NI Smart Camera and select Delete.
  3. When you have finished added and removing inspections from your NI Smart Camera select Done.

Additional Information

If you have a Simulate Acquisition step in your script that was created on your PC, you will also have to copy the images into a folder on the target that has a similar directory on your PC, so that when you run the script on the target it will be able to find the images.
