Hard Drive Full or I/O Error When Adding/Removing Software on Real-Time Target

Issue Details

I am attempting to set up my CompactRIO, sbRIO, or PXI controller as a Real-Time target. I can see my device in the NI Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) under Remote Devices. When I attempt to Add/Remove Software, I receive the following error:

Error: the hard drive on the remote system is either full or encountered an I/O error.

The following image shows the error message: 



Also, when trying to change the IP of the Real-Time target the device doesn't keep the changes after selecting Save in NI-MAX.

Solution

To resolve this error, reformat the disk to restore the hardware to it's factory default. Follow the instruction in the document How Do I Format My Real-Time Target and Reinstall the Software?
