Can I Control the Voltage of an Analog Motor Drive?

Issue Details

I have an analog motor drive and would like to combine the position functionality of Softmotion with outputting a voltage or current from a motor drive module. I would like to use the NI-9514, for example.

Solution

Outputting a voltage or current from a NI Motor Drive Interface Module is not a supported function. Softmotion and National Instruments motion software products are primarily position based.

If using an AKD or SDI Ethercat drive, you can write a torque setpoint rather than a position setpoint. The torque setpoint is a scaled current output. If you set the maximum torque, it would provide maximum current.
