Issue Details

I cannot install a National Instruments software because I keep receiving the error message Error Occurred on Server after entering the serial number for the product. How can I fix that?

Solution

This error generally occurs because a firewall blocks the connection to the server for serial number authentication.

If You are Installing on a Personal Computer:
If the software is being installed on a personal computer, temporarily disable the Windows firewall and any spyware or malware protection.

If it is a Company Computer:
Download the evaluation version of the software here, select the Software tab and navigate to the NI LabVIEW subsection and select Evaluate. The Evaluation version gives you 7 days to try out the NI software. This will download the installer which should then install the software with no issues. Once the software install completes, enter the serial number from the front of the installation CD when prompted to do so. Company servers usually have additional network security put in place by IT which blocks the initial connection to the server. This work around should allow the software to connect to the server and verify the serial number.

If the software does not accept the serial number or the error persists, contact NI support.
