Issue Details

I open NI Volume License Manager and click the Start Volume License Server button, but nothing happens and my volume license server does not start.

Sometimes background processes that NI VLM needs can hang. Try one of the next steps to refresh the NI VLM task:
  1. Restart the host computer.
  2. If that's not an option:
    1. Close NI VLM.
    2. Open the Windows Task Manager.
    3. Click on Processes
    4. Click the Show processes from all users button at the bottom of the window.
    5. Find lmgrd.exe, right-click it, and end the process.

Additional Information

The lmgrd.log in the Volume License Manager's ProgramData folder can grow too large. Observed effects of this have been slow license check out times and the volume license server not starting. This log file is cleared when NI VLM is restarted. Periodically restarting NI VLM can mitigate issues caused by this file growing too large.
