Allow Two VIs To Run Unimpeded From Each Other

Updated Jul 3, 2018

Issue Details

I want to run two VIs in a development environment, and for a dialog box to not impede user interaction with the other VI.

With built-in LabVIEW one-button, two-button, and three-button dialog boxes, this is not possible. A standard LabVIEW Dialog box will disable interaction with the development environment.

However you can use a custom dialog box to achieve the behavior you desire.
  1. Follow the steps in Creating Quality Dialog Boxes in LabVIEW to create your custom dialog box.
  2. To prevent the dialog boxes from disabling interaction with the development environment, you will want to edit the VI Properties, from File -> VI Properties
  3. Go to Window Appearance and select Dialog.
  4. Click Customize.
  5. On the top right, be sure to change Window behavior from Modal to either Default or Floating.
