Issue Details

I have a fully licensed version of LabVIEW or other National Instruments software that I activated via an activation code. After partitioning the hard drive I have LabVIEW installed on, every time I open LabVIEW the license manager opens and shows my software as unlicensed. When I enter my activation code, the license manager claims the activation was successful, but the issue repeats when I open LabVIEW. Why?

Solution

Changes to your computers hard disk including partitioning can often affect activation codes, as activation codes are bound to your computers PC ID which can change when the disk is modified. To fix this issue, you must change the hardware bound to your activation code.

Using our How Can I Change the Hardware Used for Activation of NI Software article, obtain a copy of your computers volume disk serial number. Another computer ID can be generated based on this disk volume serial number upon request from National Instruments, which then can be used to activate software. Please note that the ability to use this method for activation is handled on a case-by-case basis. To inquire about eligibility, email agreements@ni.com with the following information:
  • Organization Name and Department
  • NI products to be activated
  • Version(s) of each product
  • Serial Number of each product
