Issue Details

Any numerical measurements in Vision Builder for AI are displayed with only two digits of precision. Does Vision Builder for AI offer more than two digits of precision? If so, how can I display more than two digits of precision?

Solution

Even though numerical measurements in Vision Builder for AI are displayed with two digits of precision, more digits are still available. The extra digits are used in numerical calculations, but are rounded off by default for a simpler display.

There are three ways to display more digits of precision in Vision Builder for AI.
  • The best option is to add a custom overlay to your image. This will vary based on your version
    • For Version 3.0 and later -- Under Use Additional Tools there is a step for Custom Overlay. Select this step and find the tab called Custom Overlay Select the Text tool and click on your image to place down the custom overlay. Now, on the custom overlay tab, there is a ruler icon in the bottom right that you can click to Insert Measurement. To change the digits of precition, select fractional rather than decimal for the string format.
    • For Version 2.6.1 -- Under Use Additional Tools category list there is a step called Display Image, which will add the custom overlay. Choose this step and select Edit Custom Overlay then add text, then insert data. To change the digits of precition, select fractional rather than decimal for the string format.
  • Perform a calculator step and either: wire the input directly to the output; or add 0 to the number you have measured. This will display a number with higher precision in the script view.
  • Use the "View Measurements..." option under the Tools menu. This option will show detailed results on the measurements used in your system. However, will not add anything to the display.
