How Can I Communicate with FLIR Infrared Cameras in LabVIEW?

I am developing an application in LabVIEW and I would like to acquire images from a FLIR infrared camera. There is a driver to use it?

Solution

For newer applications, we recommend using NI-IMAQdx as part of Vision Acquisition Software (VAS) for customers using GigE Vision cameras (which the FLIR A655sc is) and the Vision Development Module

The NI-IMAQdx driver software is needed to use third-party image acquisition devices which use the following buses and standards: 
  • Gigabit Ethernet Cameras Supporting GigE Vision
  • FireWire IEEE 1394 Cameras
  • USB 2.0 Cameras Supporting Microsoft DirectShow
  • USB 3.0 Cameras Supporting USB3 Vision

Additional Information

FLIR provides the ThermoVision LabVIEW Toolkit  (for acquisition via FireWire™ or Ethernet interfaces) to use with LabVIEW LabVIEW 7.1 or later, NI-IMAQ 3.1.3 or later, and IMAQ Vision 7.1 or later. Some sample Vi's  that are useful for getting starting with it.

The IMAQdx API is a licensed product, and the associated IMAQdx VIs will not be visible within LabVIEW if the Vision Acquisition Software (VAS) has not been activated and the trial period has expired. Note that the NI-IMAQ driver (used for NI Camera Link frame grabbers only) is not a licensed product and does not need to be activated.

NI Vision Acquisition Software (VAS) is the National Instruments driver software used for acquiring, displaying, logging, and monitoring images from a wide range of different camera types. Installing these drivers results in added function palettes in the LabVIEW development environment corresponding to each subset of the driver API.
