Can I synchronize the USB-6001 to an external clock source?

Solution

You can test if your device is able to use an external clock source by setting up either the device or a simulated device and running it with this external clock example. If you are able to run the program successfully (with the proper device channel parameters selected), then the device supports an external clock. Below, USB-6001 channels are selected as parameters. Error -200414 shows up, indicating that we cannot use the PFI line, or an external clock source with the device.

Another method is to check the specification sheets. For instance, you won't be able to synchronize every measurement of the USB-6001 to the external clock source (but you can still use general DAQmx triggers). You can tell because on the USB-6001 Specifications, under the 'Counter' section there is no specification for an external clock source. For a device that does support an external clock, such as the USB-6211, you will find a specification for an external clock source under the same section (in this case 'General-Purpose Counters/Timers').
