Can't Add my R Series FPGA Target in LabVIEW

Updated May 6, 2023

Software

  • LabVIEW
  • LabVIEW FPGA Module

Driver

  • NI R Series Multifunction RIO

Issue Details

I want to add an R Series FPGA Target in my LabVIEW project's My Compter.
When I open the Add Targets and Devices on My Computer window, I can't see the R Series list, or I'm unable to see the Add Targets and Devices on My Computer option in the menu.

Solution

If you can't see the R Series targets and devices, it's because the NI R Series Multifunction RIO Driver is missing on your computer.

You need to:
  1. Close LabVIEW
  2. Download and install the NI R Series Multifunction RIO Driver compatible with your LabVIEW version
  3. Reboot the computer
  4. Re-open LabVIEW
The R Series will be listed now.

Additional Information

If the driver is correctly installed in your computer but the R Series target still doesn't show up, check the Supported Hardware your driver version offers. This can be found in the driver's Readme documentation.
For FPGA targets, the Supported Hardware for the versions of LabVIEW and LabVIEW FPGA Module should also be checked.

If using LabVIEW 64-bit, install LabVIEW 32-bit instead. The 64-bit version offers limited hardware support. Refer to the LabVIEW FPGA Module Readme (found in the download page) or FPGA Targets Support for the LabVIEW FPGA Module 64-bit for additional details.

In a similar way, if you can't find any Targets and Device Type, like CompactRIO or FlexRIO, please check if the corresponding driver isn't missing in your computer.
