Can I Use a PCIe 1.X Card in a PCIe 2.X Slot?

Updated Aug 10, 2018

Issue Details

I have an NI PCI Express (PCIe) card that is PCIe 1.x compliant but I want to use it in a motherboard that supports PCIe 2.x. Will this work?

Solution

Yes, PCI Express 2.x motherboard slots are backward-compatible with PCI Express 1.x device.

Generally, any motherboard that supports a PCIe version greater than or equal to the PCIe version of your card will be fine.
