Issue Details

I want to simulate an DMM such as USB-4065 in NI MAX but I can't make a test panel.

Solution

Test Panels are not supported by DMMs in NI MAX. You can simulate a DMM such as a USB-4065 in NI MAX and then interface with the simulated device in LabVIEW. This requires that you have the NI-DMM driver installed.

To create the simulated device in MAX see tutorial NI-DAQmx Simulated Devices

You can build a LabVIEW VI to interface with the simulated DMM. The NI-DMM driver installs a library of LabVIEW functions you can use to build a program such as "DMM Read". Example code can be found under Help>Find Examples...  and browsing to Hardware Input and Output> Modular Instruments>NI-DMM .

Additional Information

Not all DMMs are supported the simulation in NI-MAX, such as PXI-4081. Then you can simulate them in LabVIEW using the niDMM Initialize With Options function of the NI-DMM driver as described in Simulating NI Digital Multimeters.
