How Do I Get Sub-Microsecond Synchronization with Multiple PXIe Chassis?

Updated May 8, 2018

Reported In

Hardware

  • PXIe-6674T

Issue Details

  • I would like to have synchronization between my PXIe systems in the sub-microsecond region. How do I do this?
  • I've seen documents that say that multi-chassis PXIe systems can synchronize to nanosecond precision. What hardware configuration would I need for this?

Solution

Nanosecond level synchronization between multiple chassis is possible through a method called TClk Synchronization. A tutorial on setting up TClk synchronization is available here

To utilize TClk synchronization you will need the PXIe-6674T.

Additional Information

Evaluate if sub-microsecond timing is necessary for your application based on your sampling rate and instrument specifications. Synchronizing to nanosecond levels adds additional cost and complexity to your system.
