Configuring LabVIEW DSC Module and Lookout Run-Time to Work with a Firewall

Issue Details

I use LabVIEW DSC or Lookout and have a firewall. I used Configuring LabVIEW, LabVIEW DSC, NI Variable Engine and Lookout to Work with the Windows Firewall for the development computer but my distributed system only has the Run-Time System installed and I cannot find the executables that I need to allow access for. How do I allow communication through the firewall for the Run-Time System?

Solution

To allow transmission of network-shared variables, you need to configure the ports specified in specified in Configuring Firewalls and Network Address Translating Routers for Shared Variables. To do so, go to the Advanced Settings of your Windows Firewall as shown below. 

Select New Rule and select the port option as shown below. Then click Next and define the port that needs to be opened. 

These need to be configured in both the Inbound Rules and Outbound Rules
