Issue Details

When I attempt to shut down my PXI controller, it performs a restart instead of a shut down. I do this by going to Start > Shutdown on the Windows OS. I observe that all of the hardware (fan, LEDs, all cards, etc.) and the OS shut down before restarting a few moments after. How can I make it stop doing this?

Solution

This can be caused by a powered USB hub being present in the system. If you have a powered USB hub, remove it from the system and shutdown again. If it works after removing it from the system completely, then this is related to a Windows 7 bug. You should contact Microsoft support if a work around is needed.

If removing the USB hub doesn't change the behavior, the following steps can help remedy it:
  1. Try performing a hard shut down by pressing the physical power button on the chassis.
  2. If you are able to do step one, remove all of the cards and controller from the chassis.
  3. Wait a few minutes and put the system back together and power on.
