Issue Details

Which version of the LabVIEW Real-Time and LabVIEW FPGA module do I need to work with my current version of LabVIEW?

Solution

For correct functionality, the version of LabVIEW, LabVIEW Real-Time (RT) module and LabVIEW FPGA modules, need to be compatible versions. If you install a different version of one software component, you must install compatible versions of the other components.

With LabVIEW 2021 and earlier, the year portion of each component must match in the version. For example, LabVIEW 2018 requires LabVIEW Real-Time 2018, and LabVIEW FPGA 2018.

For newer versions, there may be different versions that need to be installed for compatibility. Refer to the table below for details. For clarity, bold items indicate a difference in version:

2022 Q32022 Q32022 Q3

Additional Information

For more information about the compatibility of versions 2023 Q3 and earlier, you can review the readme for each module. There are no readme files for later versions of LabVIEW, RT Module and FPGA Module.

Note: Version compatibility applies to SP1 versions of software only if there was a released SP1 version of the LabVIEW Module.
You can check the LabVIEW FPGA Module and LabVIEW Real-Time Module download pages to see if there is a SP1 version released for that year.

For example:

  •  The compatible versions of LabVIEW 2017 SP1 are the following:
    • LabVIEW Real-Time Module 2017
    • LabVIEW FPGA Module 2017 SP1
  • The compatible modules for LabVIEW 2018 SP1 are the following:
    • LabVIEW Real-Time Module 2018 SP1
    • LabVIEW FPGA Module 2018

When installing LabVIEW, LabVIEW Modules, and NI drivers on your development computer, the order in which you install the software is important. Refer to the Getting Started with CompactRIO Hardware and LabVIEW tutorial for more information about software installation, activation, and configuration instructions.
