Issue Details

When trying to see the modules in a network CompactDAQ (cDAQ) chassis or while doing a Self-Test in NI MAX, I receive the following error message:
error -201388: Network device is not reserved for this host.

The installed modules aren't showing up and I am having issues connecting to my chassis. What might be causing this issue?

Solution

This error stems from resource reservation. Your PC may not have reserved the cDAQ chassis on the network, which would prevent the host PC from being able to use it. Right click on the chassis in NI MAX, then click on Reserve Chassis. This should reserve the chassis for use by your system; thus resolving the issue.

If you are trying to reserve the chassis and encounter error -201388 again, another device on the network may have reserved the chassis already. If you know of other PCs that might be using the chassis, log into them and check to see if they’ve reserved the cDAQ. If you don’t know which PC may be using it, you can power cycle the cDAQ chassis to remove it from all reservations.

If power cycling does not resolve the issue, then it may be originating from the presence of multiple network interface cards (NICs) on the computer. Go into Windows Control Panel to disable all of the NICs except for the one through which the cDAQ chassis is connecting. Restart NI MAX and the device should now be able to be reserved.

Additional Information

This error might be the underlying issue if you receive the following error message:
error -201003: Device cannot be accessed while trying to run your DAQmx application.
